For the third time in three years, Eric Johnson and Tim Dermody's Norton Lancers have squared off with Bill Wanless's North Attleboro squad in the MLK Classic, with each team leaving M-Plex with a championship.
After beating Willington, CT and Rehoboth, MA earlier in the day, Norton ran away with the title, literally, by beating North Attleboro, 52-31.
North controlled the first six minutes of the game and grabbed a 13-10 lead. Norton then went on a 17-0 run keyed by its fast break and good outside shooting to take a 27-13 lead that they would never relinquish.
Laura Johnson led Norton into the break with 12 points. Kyla Prosper scored 7 and Allison McPhearson chipped in with 6 for Norton.
Norton stepped up the defensive intensity in the second half, and held North to only 13 points in the last 16 minutes, so capture a 52-31 win.
North, who earned a first round bye because it was the reigning champions, beat (10) Sandwich earlier in the day, had balanced scoring in the championship with Meg Ahern and Kylie Paul leading the way with six points. Danielle Perron and Emily Knobel chipped in with five apiece.
Norton was led by tournament MVP Laura Johnson, with 17 points. McPhearson scored 10 and Propser added 7.
